The blowout scenarios included in this report were set up to give an overview of the "worst case" scenarios possible. Note that additional restrictions due to fishes, partially closed BOP or a similar situation is common during blowouts. The scenarios studied are:
Alpha Wells
Worst case. Blowout to surface while drilling 12 ¼" hole into Sand 3 looking for 9-7/8" casing point. Flow is from Sand 2 (top 4468 m tvd, 1400 mdm) and Sand 3 (top 4676 m tvd. 635 mdm. Drillipipe in hole and flow is in annulus between 5" dp - 8" bha and 12 ¼" open hole- 13 3/8" casing. Relief well kill point at top of Sand 3.
Worst case. Blowout to surface while drilling 12 ¼" hole into Sand 3 looking for 9-7/8" casing point. Flow is from Sand 2 (top 4468 m tvd, 1400 mdm) and Sand 3 (top 4676 m tvd. 635 mdm). Drillipipe out of hole and flow is inside 12 ¼" open hole- 13 3/8" casing.. Relief well kill point at top of Sand 3.
Probable case. Blowout to surface while drilling to TD after setting 9-7/8" casing point at 4650 m tvd. Flow is coming from Sand 3, 6, 7, and 8. Separate inflow from each zone, see next section. Drillpipe in hole and flow is in annulus between 8 ½" open hole - 9-7/8" casing and 5" dp – 6 ¾" bha. Relief well kill point at top of Sand 8.
Probable case. Blowout to surface while drilling to TD after setting 9-7/8" casing at 4650 m tvd. Flow is coming from Sand 3, 6, 7, and 8. Separate inflow from each zone, see next section. Drillpipe out of hole and flow is inside 8 ½" open hole - 9-7/8" casing to surface. Relief well kill point at 9-7/8" casing shoe.
Beta wells
Worst case. Blowout to surface while drilling 16" hole after setting 18 5/8 " casing at 1000 m tvd. Flow from Sand A with top at 3850 m tvd. 5 m of Sand A penetrated. Assume 6 5/8 " dp and 150 m of 8" bha. Relief well kill point at top of Sand A.
Worst case. Blowout to surface while drilling 12¼" hole after setting 18 5/8 " casing at 1000 m tvd. Flow from Sand A with top at 3850 m tvd. 5 m of Sand A penetrated. Assume 5" dp and 150 m of 8" bha. Relief well kill point at top of Sand A.
Probable case. Blowout to surface while drilling 8 ½ " hole to TD. 9-7/8" set at 3800 m. Drillpipe in hole and flow is in annulus between 8 ½" open hole - 9-7/8" casing and 5"dp – 6 ¾" bha. Relief well kill point at top at TD. Flow from zones: F3, G3, H1 and H2.
