Design and Supervision of
Kill Operations
- Define the Kill Team organization
- Define the blowout scenario for
which the kill strategy is being developed
- Define kill principle to evaluate:
dynamic, heavy fluid, reservoir flood, reactive fluids, etc.
- Define kill fluids to evaluate
- Define kill depth
- Define injection flow path (relief
well annulus, drillpipe, tubing, etc.)
- Define constraints on: HHP,
injection pressure and flowrate
- Compute steady state kill
parameters (minimum flowrate, mud volume required, time to achieve kill)
- Assess sensitivities on kill by:
reservoir IPR, pressure and temperature, fluid properties, flowpath, water, losses,
fracture
- Compute transient (versus time)
kill parameters on chosen: kill fluid, HHP, critical injection pressure (surface, casing,
downhole), kill fluid volumes, BHP, influx and outflow rate for blowout and kill fluid
- Define pumping loads for tubular
design (relief well or surface kill)
- Choose kill method
- Define high pressure pumping plant
- Define kill fluid storage and
transfer requirements
- Define kill platform (for
offshore) or space requirements for land
- Supervise installation and QC of
kill plant
- Supervise kill operation
